A pragmatic, demanding coach with strong man-management, Sannino built his career on promotions won with underdog squads and on top-flight experience in Serie A and the English Championship — adapting the system to the players, never the other way around.

Serie A head coach with Siena, Palermo, Chievo Verona and Carpi. Kept newly promoted Siena up in 2011/12 and reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

Watford, 2013/14. Club record: six consecutive home wins without conceding a goal. Left in September 2014 with the team second in the Championship.

Paulo Dybala. Handed the 18-year-old his Serie A debut at Palermo, September 2012.
